“Th13teens trains have finally been revealed in the Sunday Mercury Newspaper and to be honest not what i had hoped for they look more of a hyped up runaway mine carriage! with only lap bars as restraints! which does not suggest an overly vigorous ride! At least the track will make up for that with its many dips and sharp turns.
Rita is also being rethemed. The Rita tyre at the entrance to the Rita queueline is being covered in vines and there is also work taking place on retheming the Control Cabin. (Pics can be found on the Alton Towers Flickr page).
There is also pics on the exterior of the crypt with the petrified wraiths. The retheme of Ug Land to the Dark Forest is looking really good. If Th13teen looks as good inside the crypt as it does on the outside it is going to brilliant.
I dont know if Alton Towers have gone stark raving bonkers or Th13teen has had some mystical effect on them with a competition to be the first to ride on Th13teen.
The first to ride competition being organised by the resort has some bizarre experiments to prove the candidate is capable of handling the new ride.
this includes:
A Psychometric test
Interrogation interview
2 hr physical assessment
Rollercoaster endurance (1 hr of continuous rides on Air)
A mysteriously named ‘Midnight bootcamp’
All of which is expected to take place on the 2nd and 3rd of March at the Resort. The competition starts the 3rd February!
Personally i would have someone riding Nemesis for an hour and not Air its much more intense!
There is going to be hundreds if not thousands apply for this first ride i just hope they know what they are letting themselves in for!
Bring on them wraiths!!!”

“This is a message to all Alton Towers fans under the age of 16:
I really wouldn't worry about Alton Towers imposing an age limit for the new ride. There is a big chance that this is all part of the marketing for the ride to get people even more intrigued. There were a lot of similar rumours flying around about Saw:The Ride, but they only recommended it for over 12's. I think there is a big chance that a similar thing will happen with Thirteen. It would be either expensive or VERY time consuming to check everyone's age before they get on the ride.”

Alton towers have nothing like this in the park at them moment so how can people be disppointed !!!. i can not wait until march 2010 !!! i think the ride may be a bit like the 'Revenge of the Mummy' In Orlando florida that shoots riders backwards and has many special effects and it is a indoor ride...which by the looks of things this one is too !! i can not wait......bring on 2010 so we can shut all these people up who are moaning about it !!! good work Alton Towers !! xx”

“Hey, I've never been to Alton Towers but im going nect summer!
i'm really surprised by thes coaster because i first thought it would be like this small kiddy coaster.
They say it's a intamin ride and i've watched the intamin website and noticed that only 1 coaster type is with this kind of lift. the description of this ride is: " a fantastic family ride combining elements from several kinds of rollercoasters and other rides".
This is exactly what this coaster would be! There was a coaster of this type in taiwan but they had to destroy it, so I think it will be a coaster like this.
It combines darkride, spinning coaster, speed coaster and family rides.
Do you think this is possible or Am I seeing things wrong?
Much love Jasper”

“I can almost guarantee that the ride will not be called surrender. Alton Towers have never revealed the name of their new rides until about a month before it opens. I am so excited to see how this project is developing. At first i was very underwhelmed by the visuals, plans and the track itself. However after looking at recent construction photo's i am surprised at the actual scale of the ride, it seems much bigger and much more exciting than i first thought. If they do change the theming of rita it will be sorely missed because i for one really enjoyed the theming of rita, but it does make sense to get some consistency in ug land for a change. I am also almost certain that this ride will not go upside down at any point, because for one the track isn't really wide enough or supported enough for this sort of element. I am intrigued by some peoples comments about the ride having a tilt element and going vertically backwards underground, if this were true then this could turn out to be a very thrilling ride, it would also make alot of sense for them to do this because it incorporates three things we know for a fact -this is going to be a world first, it will go underground and it goes backwards at some point. People have also commented saying that the wheels on the lift hill are associated with slightly smaller rides than the one we were hoping for. This is true and it is strange that they would choose this over a chain lift. I strongly bleieve that this is due to keeping noise to a minimum rather than it being a smaller ride. There were many complaints made when the new ride was first proposed and one of the main concerns was the added noise pollution to the surrounding area, Alton Towers have obviously tried to combat this by choosing this type of lift. I wouldn't have thought that this would have much impact on the ride though (hopefully!).
Very excited to see what Intamin and Alton Towers manage to pull off. The ride looks awesome!

“Is it me or does the lift hill seem to get bigger and bigger! Rita is going to be renamed and the shops and outlets are having a makeover too! I'm really liking the surrender characters placed in ugland they're definatley scary! And I can't believe how big the buildig will be! Saw the ride will be tame compared to this! Allegedly the cover story is something to do with an ancient burial sight which is cursed? Rumours possibly... that Sounds a bit biblical to me! Much love again!”

“I think the wheels on the lift hill do make it seem like a "smaller" ride BUT i have a feeling they might have had to use them as for the noise restrictions! I also thinkthat the train will go down through the floor but this might be while watching a cinema screen and it may turn into a 3D cinema with the whole train going upsidedown or something. its gonna be interesting i think but lets hang on in there and see!!”

“I think Brad is right! Themeing makes the difference I will use nemesis as an example its a great ride because of the themeing that makes it scary to look at and builds anticipation even with the most bespoke coaster enthusiast! The thing is when you enter this newly themed area you won't see the ride because it will be hidden behind the trees???? So what ever you will see has to make an impact! The area of the ride is huge on the grand scale of things, but most people won't realise this at first. Something amazing is going to happen when you enter the building and its going to blow everyone away! I really agree with Brad because I love hex because of its slow build up and the Gothic themeing and duel... Killing zombies again and again... Love it! I'll keep my ear close to the ground in case anything pops up! Much love!”

“In response to Christopher's post, I am so excited to see the crumbling UG land theming being replaced by a new, consistent theme. However, surely this means that the Thunder Rock Rally concept for Rita is going to have to be changed? Is Rita going to recieve a make-over?”
Posted by Brad on Friday 16th October 2009 at 3:01pm
“Having seen the updated gallery, the scale of this ride blows me away! I had seen the visualisations and had been disappointed by the wispy looking track when it arived on park (which resembles the steel kids coaster from Rollercoaster Tycoon, right down to the wheels on the lift hill). But having now seen the scale of the station building's frame, my faith in the project is restored. It's not a case of this coaster being a gut wrenching g-force experience; but in my opinion hex and duel are among the best ride experiences in the park and although their basic ride systems are really basic, the theming redeems them as a ride experience. I think the key to SW6 is going to be whatever happens inside that indoor section- which we've yet to find out for sure yet- but the height between the 2 track sections looks quite high and that could involve some serious droppage! I think they are really going to pull it off! Woop, go Alton Towers!”

“Wow! I've been talking to one of the German guys at the sight and he said (in very poor English) this is the most ambitious project that intamin have ever undergone, I also asked him what the worlds first is? he told me it was something to do with the themeing??? And that was all he said! After looking at the track I would say its going to be a smooth ride like spinball (without the mad vehicles) but for all you doubters out there This is going to be an amazing ride! Also work is starting back of house of the stripping of ugland new themeing is arriving daily behind hex at the art work shop and it looks sinister! Towers nerds concept art isn't a million miles away! I really can't wait to ride the demon of the dark forest! Oh just one more thing surrender is a ploy to keep people guessing ! The new name is..... You'll find out next March when they unleash the......”

“Ride the Demon of the Dark Forest - Surrender.
Could this really be the actual name for SW6?
Surrender in to the unknown.
It would certainly work if they are using the new art work to advertise the coaster and would see Ug Land changing to the Dark Forest.
I await with great anticipation as to what the coaster trains will look like.”

“Is the new ride going to be Tame or Not? If Thorpes Park's new ride SAW is anything to go by, it should be a great all rounder fun ride.
Thorpe Park's SAW is definately a step in the right direction;
A roller coaster with good themeing (not seen a lot in the UK)
Drops in total darkeness
Variety of steep drops and camel humps (not seen a lot on steel roller coasters)
Inversions but not over done
And the eliment of surprise
I Still think that the vertical drop backwards in the dark will be the worlds first element. Taking a close look at the plans in relation with what I saw when visiting Alton Towers, sutch a small section of track going backwards don't offer a lot unless it is going to suddenly do a vertical drop backwards. Probably not as high as oblivion.
I also think that this is going to be a ride with an eliment of suprise and maybe we all have got it wrong with the backwards section happening right at the end of the ride?
What if the backward section is going to happening at the beguining of the ride?
A couple of possible senorios, you see the train come into the station forwards and then you get onto the train and then...
1. The train goes forward into a dark tunnel (maybe up a hill), stops a bang or some other sound effect and then the eliment of surprise when it drops backwards.
2. The train goes backwards out of the station and down the drop. Maybe it all could suddenly go dark and the lights my go out just before the train leave the station.
Roll on May 2010 to find out!!!”

“Sorry guys, this is another runaway train. After analyzing the track it will definatley be good but tame. The odder track with the cut-outs will house kicker wheels, this track will be mounted at the chosen angle to become the main lift hill. How each train is rumoured to hold sixty (60) will remain untold for the unforseeable future of this year.”

The view from rita, looks like there is going to be a vertical drop into a hole in the ground, a trent showing where the track emerges out again in an up wards spiral. Certainly the trains will be unique, but I think that the world first is going to be the worlds first virtical drop rollercoaster backwards? The trenches look quite narrow. Well we will have to wait and see in March 2010 :-)”

“SW6 Name is only one word!
SW6 Standard train with forward cars.
There is a reason for this. Cars are tried & tested.
Look at Maverick coaster made by Intaride LCC. who are Intamin AG
SW6 coaster was designed to be like corkscrew in some ways but have a fast track due to the fact that you are in the dark section for some time thats why the track is short.
Intamin not B&M - B&M Track to thick and to easy to see from distance. And not on detailed plans.
Track has to be lite for a reason to do with the trees B&M track to wide.
High G-Force coaster
Intamin have rights to worlds first and this one is special "really special" D.P.Section?
Big holes in the ground are for special machinery used to hold special section of track.
A.T have tried very hard to keep this coaster a secret not just for P.R reasons they want the first riders to be shocked at what happens.”

“Heard a rumor recently of the 2010 coaster being a ressurection of the old vekoma "tilt" coaster, of which only 1 exists in the world (discovery world, taiwan). Now, imagine this done backwards (world first) and you have a really awesome coaster. This also fits in with the "falling into the floor/ground" idea, which fits in with a gothic theme, and is the topic of several viral videos featuring "dr rockwell". Although the "rockwell" videos have been proven to be fan made, several ideas about SW6 tie together nicely, forming into a very interesting theory. Any thoughts?”

“Let's not forget alton are the kings of PR who knows if these plans are real at all??? Allegedly there has already been a grim discovery at the sight of which the company will not speak of! This might sound a little crazy but rumours are flying around that the train WILL leave the track??? This has been mentioned by Ian crabbe and Russell Barnes but all we really can do is pop up to THE UNKNOWN (yes that is its name) and see what they've unleashed up at alton! And for all you inversion geeks out there this WILL be an experience more than a thrill, the theming will consist of creatures (my guess is animatronics or something) and mechanical items(perhaps the ride?) and will include a waterfall that the train will enter (possible switchback here) and an underground section that has not been revealed (remember the plans for oblivion? They only showed the top half of the ride as well) I'm really looking forward to the unkown and I know I won't be dissapointed!!!!”

“On altontowersalmanac.com people are thinking that the world first element will be that the train enters the ruined castle, a special effect happens e.g. the floor breaks and the track desends into the ground. Here another effect might happen and the track elevates to ground level where the train shoots backwards out of the castle. Another speculation is that the track will tilt and the train will shoot backwards out of the castle. As for the theming, it is a possibility that it will be themed around hex. “This Coaster looks very interesting. Its a shame that alton towers cant build something bigger and longer! I know they are restricted etc by local authority and stuff but something abit more thrilling would be nice. Perhaps in the near future we could see something bigger and longer in the place of the 'Black Hole'. hmmmm? :-D”

“reading through the comments and having just come back from the towers, this new ride is going to be great! the plans do look tame BUT they cant build a woody so you are still gonna get the feel of one since its set in the forest! I also agree its going to go alongside with the hex theme and it will prob bet set around the old oak tree which will be placed in the forest. The world first part will be the train without a doubt! new seat design is my guess, somehow turns them sideways so you can watch the story on the inside part! roll on 2010!”

“i'm very interested by Matt B's comment that it looks as though it will follow the HEX storyline. an after looking at the unusual theming of the ride this seems to be highly possible an if it does this could turn out to be a very interesting ride”

“This ride has got some big shoes to fill by replacing the iconic corcscrew. i sincerely hope it won't be a let down. intamin, who are manufacturing the ride, have been known to make some very thrilling rides and looking at the track layout it seems that the 'world first' part of the ride will be with the train itself. when i heard that the ride was codenamed secret weapon 6 i expected it to be manufactured by B&M so i was slightly disappointed that the ride isn't being manufactured by B$M because they have made some of the best rides in the world so i'm expecting big things from intamin. i am confused about the theming of the ride, when i heard that the corkscrew was leaving i thought it would have made sense for alton towers to get rid of the 'ug land' theme and retheme the area to a racing style theme so i'm not sure what the plans are for the area. the ride has been rumored to be a mega-lite coaster which isn't the most thrilling so that is what lead me to believe that they were going to work their magic on the train rather than the track. part of me hoped they wold bring back a 3-d cinema as there are some that lift the seats so they are vertically on top of each other. but despite some of my hopes and expectations not being fulfilled i am seriously looking forward to seeing what intamin produces and i can't wait to see the final ride because despite the ride layout not being outstanding they are still claiming that it will be a 'world first' so i'm very excited to see what they pull out of the bag!”

“Well it has been billed as Secret Weapon 6 following Alton Towers other success stories based on Secret Weapon rides giving us Oblivion, Nemesis, Air and Rita it should be great and world class. I hope it lives up to the hype having to replace Corkscrew a monument to Alton Towers it self. It would be a crying shame if the ride does not out perform Corkscrew.
So what will the new ride have in store? The emphasis seems to be on the dark section on the ride as this is hyped as "World's First" obviously this is going to be a closely guarded secret until it is revealed but looking at the plans section where the ride goes backwards is really interesting just how long will this section of going backwards be and what effect will this have on the ride experience? For that we will wait and see but I like the concept. Just hope it does not have a high break down time!
Looking at the plans it looks as though they are going with the Dark Forest theme and possibly tie in with the towers it self and Hex which would be really good. It will be interesting to see what happens to Rita will she be re-themed also, or remain a contrast like Nemesis and Air?
News is that Secret Weapon 6 will be built by the Intamin Company. Intamin brought us Rita and also Congo River Rapids to Alton Towers. It marks a departure for the park, after Nemesis, Oblivion and Air were all made by Bolliger & Mabillard.
Other Intamin rollercoasters in the UK include Stealth and Colossus (Thorpe Park). Secret Weapon 6 is touted as an Intamin Mega-Lite model (a mini-hyper coaster).
The Piraten Rollercoaster in Denmark features bunny hops, twists and turns and steep drops (all feature in the plans for 2010).
I just hope it does not turn out similar to Rita with it being made by the same company. Will the carriages of the train be the same as Rita or different?
Then there was the suggestion that Robo-Arms would be added to the area. How plausable that is I am unsure due to a low through put as the only ones I have seen hold two to four people. They would either need to install a lot or have a bigger holding arm so more people can ride or through put must be horrendous.
No doubt the whole project will be a success i can not wait to see the result! Roll on 2010!”

“I heard this coaster was going to be a 'robotic arm' coaster so even if the track layout looks tame, the ride could still go upside down etc.
If not, the ride may just be more about its storyline rather than an extreme roller coaster. By looks of the station, it may be fitting in with the HEX storyline.”

ALTON TOWERS ROCKS!!!”

“I'm sure Alton Towers won't have told us everything and they even impress me with little things like staff being kind and the park being clean so I'm sure they'll do a good job. I wish they made the ride longer going into the Towers doing the switchback because it looks like the theme will be based on the Towers. I'm still sure there's a good suprise waiting and can't wait to ride it! :D By the way TN Creators good job on this website!”

“i trust alton towers on this, they gave us the first dive machine, the best slc, the most natural flying coaster and a great launch coaster, i'm pretty sure that whilst it looks a boring layout, that it will be special on almost maverick scale, I'M WELL EXITED.”

“I was looking at the BBC website about this coaster being a "worlds first", the only thing that stood out was that it will carry 60 (sixty) people at a time. I cant think of another one that does this. Shame about the layout though, as an older guy who queued for over 8hrs on the opening day for Corkscrew I just hope they pull something out of the bag and suprise us all.”

“hi alton towers you are the best place ever also i would like to talk about sw6 i have look at the plans and i cant see how the ride is a worlds first i mean it is only a faimly ride. so it wont be that good i am comeing on sunday 29th march to go on every ride and to see what work has been done because it is time there is a new ride also i like the look of cloud cuckoo land it looks great also i like the sea life i hope it has got turtles in there because i love them also i can getin at 9.00 the new ride is going to be great and i hope every one else thinks so to you have put so much hard work into this park i just hope every one else thinks so me and my dad and sister love alton towers cause it is great also the park is very clean i am amazed at the park and i would like to say good luck in the furture. ”

“alton towers is a great place and needs to be updated and i happen to have a few ideas of what to do with the theme park although some might not work fo example make oblivion longer and possibley higher than kingda ka which stands about 456 ft in the air and travels at 128mph which is also the worlds fastest roller coaster.
if your interested in some more of my ideas just email me back.
oh and i have a few more world 1st ideas...”

“I am very disapointed in the plans for the 2010 SW6 coaster, looking at the plans there is nothing exciting about it, i think they should bring back toyland tours because you get a bigger buzz off that ride than this! alton towers is suppost to be the best theme park in the UK, we needed this coaster to be a really good exiting ride to compete with thorpe park, they have got so many good coasters now, they got SAW, Nemesis inferno, Stealth, Coloussus, Tidal Wave alton towers is going down hill, i hope that these plans are dummy plans and the real thing is kept a secret till 2010.”
Posted by Jimmy on Thursday 5th March 2009 at 6:11pm
“It doesn't look like the most exciting of all coasters, yet nobody knows what the world's first part of the rollercoaster is going to be. Alton Towers never fail to impress, and these early plans may not look great, but you bet that it will be absolutley brilliant.”

“I think that the new roller coaster is not as good as it could be for Alton Towers they are allways fast and fourise but this one just looks like a slower and tamer Spinball Wizzer and is just boring. But it may be better than i think if Alton put there mind to it.

“How is it a let down? No one knows what the 'worlds first' element will be yet. They can't get a woodie, because of noise restrictions. And to be honest a stand-up steel coaster isn't really anything new, it wouldn't uphold the 'SW...' codename.”
Posted by stu dickens on Friday 6th February 2009 at 7:45pm
“I think this is a realy big let down. Alton towers can do a way better than this, just look at air, rita and nemisis. I would of thought that they would of had a stand up steal coaster or a wooden coaster. come on alton towers get your act together.”

“Slightly dissapointed also with the layout of the "worlds first" coaster. If iam honest i feel the layout looks very simple, bland and very slow, however if john wardley is involved with the design/build of this coaster with i beleive he is then iam sure it wont be as bad as the design may seem at the minuite. I think for now i will just wait and see what comes of this design and hopefully it may change if not then roll on 2010 so i can see what all the fuss is about.”

“Nice site guys. Looks really good.
The coaster is shorter than I expected, although I think it will be better than Corky as it is unique for Towers due to the switchbacks. Having said that, it doesn't look too exciting either - no matter what your age. However, perhaps it would be a more gentle thrill ride for all, as some don't like rollercoasters.
Well done Towers, and well done nerds for the website!”

“No What i Was expecting to much like Everest Ride at Animal Kingdom in Florida and I agree with some of the other Comment on saying it needs to be a lot Faster but we are For getting it a Family ride Based on Hex and every ride Alton Towers make it all ways Highly Themed like Hex,Nemesis Cant wait to see what they can do but i don't think it should take over 2 years to make it does look so Big in Length no Height.”

“I doubt this ride will be a eurofighter, most eurofighters have a vertical lift and drop. And I just cant see AT building one of these cheapos as a major new ride.
My thinking is that the coaster will have robo-arms for carriages (hence no inversions). Then it really will be a world first! Also it says in the plans that the ride runs on hydraulics, so maybe? Fingers crossed.”

“On looking at the plans which have been drawn up, Im a little mixed on opinions for the ride. Firstly, this layout looks HUGE. Certainly takes up a load of space. Cant argue there :). The actual layout itself however does look to be a little disappointing in terms of it being a (supposedly) new secret weapon. Still time will tell. One other gripe here is that this looks to be a Gerstlauer. Whilst I have no problems with Gerstlauer as a coaster company in general, It makes me scratch my head as to why did Alton choose such a cheap option as opposed to another manufacturer which is capable of something even more ground breaking? Was it a BOGOF with saw? Was it that Gerstlauer pitched a "World First" element and Alton decided to take the plunge? We'll wait and see on that one. Still, I will be watching construction avidly hoping that this new coaster is indeed worthy of replacing the original icon that was Corkscrew. Roll on opening day!”

“I really do think this will be a let down for Alton Towers. What I ask is where is the world's first element? And why have such a rubbish layout? Maybe inversions may have been a nice idea and a higher speed launch even better. Will it be a world's first coaster type or maybe we have not seen something that makes this ride so special. Maybe the rides trains? I was all excited but now I feel let down. Come on Alton Towers, do better that this!”
Posted by Stephen on Sunday 18th January 2009 at 5:21pm
“I personally think that this is alton towers pulling a fast one I don't beleive that the new ride will look anything like the plans released as alton like to keep things to themselfs if they can keep oblivion and air secret then they will do the same on SW6 but nice website.”
